I'm home!
Last night I arrived in Wakayama. Everyone has been really nice. My predecessor Amber is so helpful. She took me out to dinner last night with a friend and we ate okanami yaki. It was really yummy. Today we are at an internet cafe and we're about to go to the grocery store. She is spending today and tomorrow showing me around. I fell off the bike once already. It will definitely take some getting used to. The apartment is nice. I can't believe it is air conditioned! I really need to work on making the place look like my own. It is just very bland right now. I need to get pretty cloth to cover the tables and book shelves, make curtains, get more pillows, better sheets and towels, pictures for the walls, and just things to decorate. You know how particular I am about my decorations! The toilet has something to be desired, but at least it's not a hole in the ground.
This internet cafe is really nice. There are little air conditioned booths with leather chairs (some you can even lie down in). There are free drinks (like juce, coffee, tea, slushies, hot/cold chocolate with flavor syrups) and soup. It is really nice. I will not have the internet in my apt for a while, so I'll be coming here to write. This place is open 24 hours a day. The city itself is really nice. The drive here reminded me of Hawaii because it is so green. There are small rice paddies, but it is still a med. size city. The train station is really nearby which has direct lines to Osaka and Kyoto, only about an hour away.
I feel that I'm really lucky to be here. Amber is showing me around and being more helpful than I imagined, the apt is great, the city is big enough where I'll keep myself really busy, and I have air conditioning!!! Things are really working out.
Oh, and most importantly, there is a place called Mr. Doughnut here. Double chocolate, so yummy!!
Well, we are off to continue exploring the town. I'm really excited!

Watch out for the Egg Salad donuts that you think are custard-filled! Also, try the curry donut! We love following your adventures - keep up the blog! Mike and Claude
